MBR-5: Application of MBR models in full-scale plants

Alessio Fenu

AQF

08/2008 - 07/2009

In this project, the trainee will test the predictability of a number of existing process models (biological treatment and filtration performance) on a defined set of full-scale data of WWTP Schilde, evaluate them in their merits to support decision-making in process design and operation and if necessary, modify them to enhance their reliability.

The chosen (modified) process model(s) will be coupled with a newly-developed cost model. The development of the cost model will mainly be backed up by the cost-analysis developed in (4). The validity of the combined model to support judgement of the applicability of MBR technology for new installations, for optimising performance of existing plants, and predict the membrane age for a certain design or upgrading scenario, will be evaluated throughout a set of data from the Aquafin pilot plant, either available or to be generated by this research.
