MBR-6: Process optimisation of industrial MBRs

TU Delft has developed the Delft Filtration Characterization method (DFCm), a tool to determine the sludge quality of any MBR under standardised conditions. The research group at TU Delft has already built a large database containing information of sludge at different municipal MBRs across Europe. In a further step we plan to extend this database to industrial MBRs. Four industrial MBRs have been selected including chemical industry and rendering plants, which have to cope with strong wastewaters.

Results derived from the filterability experiments along with data facilitated by the MBR operators and the analysis of operational parameters (e.g. COD, TOC, TSS, TVSS) will lead to a better understanding of membrane fouling.
